ON THIS DAY in 1966, The Beatles played their last concert ever, before a paying audience, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, CA. John and Paul brought cameras on stage and took pictures between songs, documenting the night – possibly taking some of the world’s first selfies. One of the opening acts that night was The Ronnettes.

In 1977, three people were arrested in Memphis, TN after trying to steal Elvis’ body. As a result, his remains would be later moved to Elvis Presley’s Graceland.

In 1987, Los Lobos started a three-week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with “La Bamba,” from the soundtrack to the film of the same name about the life of Ritchie Valens.

Also in 1987, Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” started a five-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart. Say what you will about it, it became the biggest selling single of 1987 in the UK, and a worldwide hit that still enjoys fame to this day.

In 1980, Eddie Van Halen met TV actress Valerie Bertinelli for the first time at a Van Halen concert in Shreveport, Louisiana. They would get married a mere eight months later.
